Lula Invites STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes for Coffee After Pix Pensão Sanction
The brief on-camera gesture followed the signing of a law to automate child-support collections and comes during an ongoing diplomatic strain with Argentina.
The invitation occurred at the end of a Planalto ceremony on Wednesday, July 29, when President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes to “take a coffee” and the exchange was captured by the presidency live feed.
The event marked Lula’s sanction of the Pix Pensão law, a measure to enable automatic monthly reservations from payers’ accounts to enforce child-support payments.
Speaking at the ceremony as acting STF president, Moraes said the National Justice Council will work with the Central Bank to implement the automatic monthly account reservations and urged states to join a coordinated pact to fight violence against women.
The invitation was informal and on-camera with no public follow-up meeting reported; coverage notes Moraes nodded, was guided aside by First Lady Rosângela 'Janja' da Silva, and audio from the live feed circulated in the press.
